The Township of West Deptford is gearing up for an important event— the Special School District Election scheduled for March 11, 2025.
This election, authorized by the West Deptford Board of Education, will put forward a proposal for voters to decide on matters affecting the local school district.
As the election date draws near, it’s essential for voters to be informed about voting procedures, deadlines, and new regulations.
For residents wishing to vote by mail, a new law now requires the County Clerk’s office to stop automatically sending ballots to voters who haven’t participated in the mail-in process for the past four years.
This means that if your voting record indicates you haven’t returned a vote-by-mail ballot since 2020, you will no longer receive one automatically.
Voters affected by this change will receive a notice and can easily re-enroll in the vote-by-mail process by submitting a new application to the County Clerk’s office.
If you are unaffected and plan to vote in person, you do not need to take any action—just head to the polls on election day.
If you plan to vote by mail, make sure to submit your application by March 4 to ensure your ballot is sent to you in time.
For those who prefer the convenience of voting in person, you can vote at the RiverWinds Community Center on March 11 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Alternatively, if you’ve already signed up for vote-by-mail, expect to receive your ballot shortly, and remember to submit it by 8 p.m. on March 11, either through a designated drop box or by delivering it directly to the county clerk’s office.
Regarding the 2025 Primary Election, it has been rescheduled to June 10, 2025, due to a religious observance.
However, deadlines related to mail-in ballot requests, nominations, and petitions will still follow the original primary date of June 3, 2025.
Candidates running for positions in the March 11 election must file their nomination petitions with the County Clerk’s Election Division, including school board candidates, as well as fire district and other local positions.
The filing deadline for petitions for the upcoming general election is July 28, 2025, and candidates must ensure their paperwork is properly notarized before submission.
In addition to the typical voting process, special provisions exist for military personnel and their families.
Active-duty members of the Armed Forces, Merchant Marine, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the Public Health Service can use the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) to register and request a vote-by-mail ballot, which can be emailed directly to them.
For those interested in participating in the March 11 Special Election, whether by mail or in person, it is essential to complete all necessary steps ahead of the deadlines.
The final day for in-person vote-by-mail applications is 3 p.m. on March 10.
The last date for sending in a mail-in ballot is March 11.
As voters prepare for these elections, candidates like those running for the West Deptford Board of Education are emphasizing their commitment to a thriving and inclusive educational environment.
West Deptford residents are encouraged to stay informed, ensure their voter registration is up to date, and make sure their voices are heard at the polls this March.
