Cherry Hill Police Officer John Domingo has been named the Township’s new Office of Emergency Management (OEM) Coordinator.

Domingo’s appointment was announced by Cherry Hill Mayor David Fleisher at the Feb. 10 Council meeting, where the Township Council formally supported the appointment.

Municipalities are required by state statute and state Office of Emergency Management directives to have an Emergency Management Coordinator, according to Mayor Fleisher’s Chief of Staff Brian Bauerle.

On the Township’s website, chnj.gov, the main role of the OEM is “to plan for and respond to any emergency within the township. Additionally, we are responsible for coordinating the response of local, county, and state officials during an emergency.” The four phases of emergency management, according to the website, are mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.

Domingo will continue to serve as Township Police Officer while taking on the additional responsibilities of OEM Coordinator. He is joined by two additional OEM Deputy Coordinators from the Cherry Hill Police Department: Sergeant S. Cairns and Police Officer G. Brisbin.

A veteran officer who joined the Cherry Hill Police Department in 2007, Domingo was assigned to several divisions, including the Investigative Unit, Traffic Safety Unit—where much of his training and experience was honed—the Community Response Unit, Motorcycle Unit, and Bicycle Unit, among other responsibilities.

Additionally, Domingo is a Field Training Officer and an Instructor at the Police Academy.

Bauerle said Officer Domingo’s varied background, including his stint in the Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit and Traffic Incident Management, has prepared him for the new role.

Domingo is the second high-profile appointment plucked from the Township Police Department in recent months by Mayor Fleisher to start the new year.

On Jan. 1, John Ostermueller, a 21-year veteran of the Township Police Department, became Police Chief. He replaced Chief Robert Kempf, who retired from the department on Dec. 31, 2024, after 26 years of service.
