Howard Lee Skinner

Past Master Skinner affectionately known as “Howie” to those he loved, was born to his mother and father who both preceded him in death, Blanche Lee Skinner and Howard Cottman. Past Master Skinner was raised in the North Philadelphia area into a large loving family with 5 sisters and 3 brothers. He was educated in the Philadelphia School System graduating from Northeast Catholic High School. He attended Berean Institute, receiving his certificate in Network Engineering.
Past Master Skinner proudly served his country in the United States Air Force 1 Reserves for 3 1/2 years.
But, perhaps Past Master Skinner’s greatest accomplishment was being the proud father of two children, Shawn Haines and Simone Skinner.
He worked for Septa for 26 years, eventually securing careers with Comcast Cable and prior to his untimely death; a career with Philadelphia Gas Works.
Past Master Skinner joined Percy C. Moore Lodge #140 in 1998 where he held every Pillar, prior to his position of Worshipful Master in 2009. His other affiliations include membership in O.V. Catto Lodge #140 of the Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World and a membership in Martin Luther King Consistory #86.
Howard enjoyed music, traveling and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his mother Blanche Skinner and his father Howard Cottman. He leaves behind his former wife Vanessa Skinner, his daughter Simone Skinner and his son Shawn Haines. His sisters Michelle Green, Veronica Redding, Theresa Davis, Mary Greene, Brenda Skinner, Renee Cottman, Maria Cottman, Dehlia Cottman and brothers Vernon Skinner, Jr. Winslow Skinner, Gregory Skinner and Howard Cottman, Jr. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
There will be a viewing from 9am to 11am on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE. Funeral service at 11am. Interment at Berlin Cemetery, 40 Clementon Road, Berlin, NJ 08009.
