Richwood United Methodist Church (UMC) will host its third annual Carnival for a Cause on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

While the free event on church grounds will be smaller than that of the Infant Jesus Parish annual carnival in Woodbury Heights, UMC’s event will still offer a variety of activities.

“It will feature lots of games and contests for kids and adults, including a dunking booth with special guests,” said church administrator Mildred Herman. “There will be a free concert by the church’s band (Sanctified) at 2:30 p.m., face painting, clowns and more.”

The carnival will also feature a basket auction and a dessert auction with homemade products. There will also be other foods for sale, including burgers, hot dogs and cotton candy. A ticket is not required and the event is open to anyone, regardless of affiliation with the church.

Proceeds will benefit We Can’t to We Can, a nonprofit that helps children with disabilities by providing them with financial support, events and children’s books.

“We create books that feature real kids with disabilities as superheroes,” notes the organization’s website. “We create initiatives and programs that normalize and raise awareness of disabilities.”

Other church carnivals raised funds for rebuilding a village in Haiti and for Pitman-based Angels Community Outreach, which provides food, clothing and other items for the needy.
