Route 70 eastbound single lane closure Friday night to shift traffic in Cherry Hill

Route 70 eastbound is scheduled to have lane closures Friday night between Kings Highway/Route 41 and I-295 to shift traffic back to the original configuration in Cherry Hill, Camden County. This work is expected to continue next Friday, June 28, on Route 70 westbound.

Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, June 21, until 6 a.m. Saturday, June 22, a single lane on Route 70 eastbound is scheduled to be closed from Kings Highway/Route 41 to I-295. Construction is expected to begin in the left lane and move right as work progresses. The lane closures are necessary to restripe the roadway and move construction barrier, as well as upgrade traffic signals at West Gate Drive and Cover Bridge Road/Frontage Road. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained overnight.

By 6 a.m. Saturday, June 22, traffic on Route 70 eastbound will be shifted to the right, off the temporary roadway in the median toward the right curbline. The traffic shift is necessary to prepare for the Route 70 westbound traffic shift scheduled to take place next Friday, June 28. This traffic pattern is expected to remain in place until fall 2024. Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution and expect delays or plan an alternate route.

The work is part of a $151 million state-funded Route 70 corridor safety and improvement project that will upgrade traffic signals at 27 intersections, replace or install four Dynamic Message Signs, improve drainage, sidewalks, and resurface approximately 9 miles of Route 70 between Route 38 in Cherry Hill and Cooper Avenue in Evesham. In addition to milling and paving Route 70, the North Maple Avenue loop ramps and the Route 70/Route 73 interchange ramps will be repaved as well. The project is expected to be completed by winter 2026.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on X (Twitter) @NewJerseyDOT and our Facebook page.
