Cherry Hill police conducted one of what is expected to be multiple operations to curtail retail theft over two days last month that netted 38 arrests, including of several suspects believed to be involved with organized retail theft rings.
With help from more than 20 local merchants who reported shoplifting, police recovered tens of thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise. Some of those retailers, according to township Police Chief Robert Kempf, had already combined forces with his department for what is now the Cherry Hill Retail Theft Initiative.
