Harrison Township Day on June 1 at Ella Harris Park in Mullica Hill saw hundreds of people take in free entertainment, according to township recreation coordinator Sharon Chew.

The day closed out a two-day celebration of the township; the first was the Sip, Savor and Social event on Main Street. The June 1 celebration included bounce houses for kids, the local band Faultline, arts and crafts vendors, a petting zoo, a wiener dog race featuring dachshunds and amusements provided by J-Dogs Amusements and Caterings of Berlin.

This year’s Harrison Township Day also marked its return to Ella Harris Park.

“It was absolutely amazing,” Chew said. “We’re so happy that it’s back in the park and the weather was perfect. We had so many people this year that four of our food trucks ran out of food.”

The day also included a surprise appearance from the Phillie Phanatic, who greeted people and performed his usual shenanigans. There were also groups and figures in the community at the event, as was the Harrison fire department, which held demonstrations. K-9 Blaze the dalmatian was part of a demontration, as was police K-9 Dunkin.

The recreation commission worked hand in hand with the township public works department and local Boy Scout Troop 44 to help set up and clean up. The day truly ended with a bang during a fireworks display by Brian Horne, owner of Stags Leap Ranch in Mullica Hill.

“Everyone was spectacular during the event,” Chew enthused. “People stayed for all day until the end and sat outside with their blankets on the ground. It had a nice flow to it and was just an all-around perfect day.”
