The township council leadership did a switcharoo on the dais.
Council President Anthony DellaPia cited work commitments as he announced he was stepping down effective immediately during a council meeting on March 27.
“My business and everything has been busy,” he explained. “I have put in 110% since I have taken this position, and if I can’t give 110% – even if it’s 95% -it’s not what the township needs, so I’m going to step down.”
Council unanimously nominated Peter Del Borrello III, its current vice president, as president. Assemblywoman Beth Sawyer swore him in alongside his mentor, Sue Wegmann, and his family at the meeting. DellaPia was then unanimously nominated as vice president.
“These are big shoes to fill,” Del Borrello III said as he turned to DellaPia. “You get into politics because you want to make a difference in people’s lives.”
The new president then thanked his fellow council members, family and Wegmann for their support.
