A Super Buy Rite liquor store is expected to open sometime this spring at the Moorestown Mall, the first since the historically dry town approved liquor sales via referendum in 2021, according to reports on the local Patch news site and NJ.com.
The ban had been in place since the Burlington County town was established in 1922, two years after the start of Prohibition in the U.S. After approving the ordinance, the township awarded an auction bid of just over $1 million for its first distribution license. Council approved transferring the license to Super Buy Rite’s mall location late last month.
The liquor store is part of mall owner PREIT’s efforts to revitalize the shopping area; it also includes Cooper University Health Care’s new medical facility. Future developments there include a 375-unit apartment complex and a family amusement center.
