Nestled on 69.8 acres of state-preserved farmland, Saddlehill, at 1407 White Horse Road in Voorhees, seamlessly blends historical significance with a commitment to sustainable agriculture and culinary excellence.
The 7,000-square foot Farmhouse Kitchen tasting room promises an unparalleled farm-to-table experience led by Executive Chef Daniel Stern, who brings in a wealth of culinary expertise from Philadelphia’s iconic Le Bec Fin.
Stern’s menus are a celebration of locally sourced ingredients, perfectly complementing the estate’s wines.
Saddlehill offers an immersive experience beyond wine and cuisine. Visitors can unwind in the tasting room or amidst the vineyards, explore the vibrant flower gardens, or encounter the four friendly alpacas that warmly greet guests at the entrance. A nod to the farm’s storied past, a magnificent 12-stall horse barn graces the property.
In 2021, entrepreneur Bill Green embarked on a visionary journey by acquiring the historic Stafford Farm – a property steeped in American history dating back to 1773. Initially granted by George Washington to his personal guard, Lt. John Stafford, the farm remained within the Stafford family for over two and a half centuries. Green’s vision encompassed honoring the land’s rich heritage while fostering a dynamic community hub.
“Saddlehill is a dream come true,” Green said of his journey.
Over the past three years, Green and his dedicated team painstakingly restored the property to its former glory. A significant portion of the land has been transformed into a flourishing 27-acre vineyard, under the expert guidance of accomplished winemaker Peter Szerdahelyi. With two decades of experience spanning the globe, Szerdahelyi’s expertise culminates in Saddlehill’s exceptional estate-crafted wines.
“We bought the farm three years ago; we heard from others, even family members, it was never a manicured farm,” Green said. “It’s been there since 1773. I’ve lived in the area since I was 4, and I’m 65 now. On March 5, 2021, I bought the farm from Dr. Ken, who bought it from the Stafford family in 2005.
Green notes the preserved farm is permitted to have 26 events a year called special events.
“We envision the future to host events such as fantastic food and wine pairings,” he said. “We want people to come whether it’s two people to 40 people.”
