Camden County commissioners, the borough and Haddon Township will welcome the Philadelphia Mummers String Band Association to Haddonfield’s second annual string band parade on Saturday, April 20.
Leading the charge as grand marshal will be former Eagles guard Jon Runyan.
The String Band Parade Down Haddon Avenue: A Serenade to Camden County will bring county communities together for music and other activities.
“We are thrilled to have Camden County’s string band back in Haddon Township,” said that town’s mayor, Randall Teague. “Residents young and old love the incredible music and atmosphere that the bands bring to the community.”
Fifteen string bands will march from Euclid Avenue in Haddonfield and travel down Haddon Avenue to Haddon Square in the township. The parade will conclude with a celebration featuring food and drinks from regional restaurants and vendors, as well as activities for the entire family.
Particpating string bands include: Aqua String Band, Avalon String Band of Philadelphia, Duffy String Band, the Durning String Band, Ferko String Band, Fralinger String Band, Greater Kensington String Band, Hegeman String Band of Philadelphia, the Polish American String Band, Quaker City String Band, South Philadelphia String Band, Uptown String Band and Woodland String Band.
Activities for children and families along the parade route will include face painting, balloon artists, instruction on making a Mummers umbrella and surprises. Parade-goers can also enjoy more performances along the route at P.J. Whelihan’s, Crystal Lake Avenue, Reunion Hall and Haddon Square.
