Craft and market fair returns next month

The township community center will be full of local vendors for the event, selling everything from shrubs to produce.

Deptford’s annual craft and market fair will make its return from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, rain or shine, at the township community center.

The free event – organized by the parks and recreation department – will feature local vendors trying to make a name for themselves by selling art; flowers and shrubs; and fruit and produce, among other items.

Mayor Paul Medany sees the event as a good way to help small township businesses grow and to display what Deptford is all about.

“It is very important to us as a township, since we want people to know what we’re doing in Deptford,” he said. “Crafters need to get their goods out, and it’s good for people to see homemade products. It brings all local crafts people together in one place where people can find them easier.”

The mayor also noted that the fair in past years has averaged from 40 to 50 vendors, and he expects a large crowd of attendees overall. This year also marks the township’s third fair; vendors in 2023 included the School of Rock, the Rustic Art Spot, Cactus Clark, MC Creations and Memories 4 Ever.

Deptford council will have its own booth to offer information about other events and activities in town. Members of the police department will be on hand, along with employees of the parks and recreation department.

“This one (event) in particular gives them (vendors) the chance to show themselves off and for elected officials to talk to residents in a casual setting,” Medany noted.

Vendors interested in selling at the event can apply by email to the parks and recreation department at deptfordparksandrec@deptford-nj.org or call the department at (856) 845-0804.

Other upcoming events include the Memorial Day ceremony in Oak Valley on Sunday, May 26, and the family movie and campout at Memorial Park on Friday, June 7.

“Events like this help to bring the community together,” said Medany.
