The free event will include breakfast, games, crafts, an egg hunt, an Easter story interactive presentation and prizes.

“We have various crafts that we put out and coloring pages and things that they (children) can sit and do,” said Children’s Ministry Director Kitty Bowen.

Following the egg hunt, kids will get a bag of candy and a prize. Easter jam – now in its third year – will be similar to years past, but with a possible surprise or two.

“It’s great for families looking for something to do around Easter,” Bowen said. “They always look for spring egg hunts and things to do with their kids.”

The jam is also an opportunity for the church to connect with the community.

“I thoroughly enjoy always meeting new families, getting to talk to new families,” Bowen said. “There’s always people that come that want to not just participate in the event, but they want to know about the church, so it gives us an opportunity to talk to families in the area.

“Sometimes they don’t even know that you’re there as they’re doing their church shopping,” she added. “Sometimes they’re new in the area and looking for a place for their families, so that gives us an opportunity for that, to reach out to some new families and make them feel welcome or being able to answer questions about the community or what we’re involved in.”

Converge will hold a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 29, and an Easter service at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 31.

“On Good Friday we do open up our church in the afternoon, usually between the hours of (noon) and 3 (p.m.) for personal reflection on the cross,” Bowen pointed out. “We play some quiet music … They (attendees) can kind of reflect on things. It’s more of a quiet time.”

That will be followed by a full service that will include special music and a video presentation. The Easter service is more of a celebration, with upbeat music and children participating in the church choir.

“It’s an, ‘I must be there’ event,” Bowen said of the jam. “We try to just do our best to be helpful in our community and let them know we’re here and how we can help.”
