Dena Blizzard will be among comedians whose performances will help raise money for Moorestown schools in April.
MoorArts will host a comedy night at the Community House of Moorestown on Thursday, April 11, to raise funds for township schools at 7:30 p.m.
“At the end of the day the main thing is to give back to the schools with our scholarships and our teacher grants and to be able to provide venues for performances, whether it’s vocal or instrumental or theater,” said the nonprofit’s Vice President Andrea Seuren.
All proceeds from MoorArts’ first comedy event will benefit the scholarships and teacher grants in the arts. Comedians Dena Blizzard and husband and wife Jeremy and Missy Hall will entertain.
“Laughing is a way to cope with things,” Seuren observed. “It brings you happiness, but it allows you to cope with life. If you come in a bad mood to the comedy night, I think you’re going to go away feeling happy … Happiness comes from sitting and listening to comedy.”
Blizzard is the creator of “One Funny Mother,” a multi-media company creating content, products and live comedy shows about “Wine, Women and Laughter.” She’s toured her Off-Broadway show “One Funny Mother” and “My name is NOT Mom,” which toured 75 cities throughout North America through November 2022, according to onefunnymother.com.
Jeremy Hall has been doing comedy since 2012 and has performed at numerous comedy clubs, competitions and private events all over the country, including at the San Diego Comedy Store and in Las Vegas.
Missy Hall – known as Queen of Happy Things – is a breast cancer survivor and actress who uses happiness as a coping mechanism. Her comedy album, “Miss Representation,” made the Grammy entry list for the funniest comedy album, and another, “Fifty Shades of Fifty” has more than a quarter million streams. Her latest recording, “Scoot Up,” is currently playing on Sirius XM radio.
Hall also performs with the national touring show “Women of a Certain Age” and “Ladies of Laughter,” and she has experience in both acting and motivational speaking.
“I think they take what’s going on in life and turn it around and make fun of it,” Seuren explained of the comedians. “There’s laughter in everything … All three of them, although all comedians, have really good hearts.
“If you come for the evening, I can’t imagine that you’re not going to leave laughing.”
Proceeds from MoorArts-sponsored events support scholarships for eligible Moorestown High seniors, according to the nonprofit’s website, and the MoorArts Grants Program supports arts-based projects in the school district.
“We advocate for arts in the community, and we really believe that the arts should be a necessity and not a luxury,” Seuren noted. “ … We want to be able to provide a venue for folks to be able to show their artistic works.”
