As Mayor Louis Manzo put it, there will be a “busy agenda of projects and initiatives” in the new year.
Several projects have been approved to start building, including new medical buildings at the corner of Route 322 and Cedar Road and on Route 322, next to the CVS in Richwood. A joint gas station and convenience store is approved for construction at the intersection of Route 45 and Cohawkin/Cedar Road, site of the old Oscar Jenkins gas station. The property has been vacant for the last 20 plus years.
Inspira Health will also build an additional tower on its property.
“It is hard to believe that it has already been three years since Inspira Health opened the doors to the medical center and cancer center at that interchange,” Manzo said. “Earlier this year, Inspira announced their plans to build an additional tower on the hospital, with 82 more private rooms.
“This facility and its location have proven to be a resounding success, and the partnership between Rowan and Inspira is a game changer in delivering quality health care to the region,” he added.
The township will also continue its focus on infrastructure improvements, including the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan. That project aims to create a path from Main Street, down Route 322 and across Route 55, to connect with the Glassboro-Williamstown Trail.
“Federal funding has recently become available making it possible for the design, engineering and construction of our plan to be totally funded by that program,” Manzo said. “This is very exciting and we are moving forward with the final steps to submit our application, with an expectation for the award later in 2024.”
The township also plans to continue expanson of the police alert system it started in 2023 to establish better communication between residents and the police.
Harrison Township began to focus on branding in 2023 to better distinguish itself from other area communities. That will include elevating local businesses in Mullica Hill.
“We are also moving forward with our community branding initiative, focused on expanding the reputation and allure of Main Street, Mullica Hill,” Manzo explained. “We are doubling down on our commitment to supporting local businesses, as this marketing program will spread the word about the charm and hidden treasures along our historic Main Street.
