Southampton seeks new superintendent

With the departure of Superintendent Asia M. Micheal, the Southampton Township Board of Education is seeking a “visionary leader” for the pre-K through eighth grade district.

The board accepted Michael’s resignation in October. She has served the district since 2018 and was previously its director of curriculum, instruction and assessment. Michael L. Harris became interim superintendent effective Nov. 1, at a per diem rate of $675 through a date to be determined.

The district’s advertising for a new superintendent has a closing date of Jan. 2. A pop-up notice about the vacancy is on the district website. The advertisement states that the district seeks “a visionary leader committed to superior student achievement, sound fiscal management and enthusiastic community engagement to guide our district through an ever-evolving educational landscape.

“The successful candidate will have proven expertise in curriculum and instruction, finance, and community and staff relations, and will exemplify educational leadership,” the job description also noted. “We are seeking a professional with integrity and passion who is committed to developing the unique abilities of each student and staff member.”

Experience as a superintendent or assistant superintendent and in a pre-K district is preferred, with a minimum seven years experience as an administrator.
