The Medford police department is among only 7% of law-enforcement agencies in the state that have achieved four reaccreditations.
The Medford police department has earned its fourth consecutive reaccreditation from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP).
Only 7% percent of law-enforcement agencies in New Jersey have achieved that status, according to Harry Delgado, accreditation program director for NJSACOP, who called the township department’s commitment to the association’s 112 standards “remarkable.”
“The Medford Township Police Department has once again made a commitment to adhering to best practices at state and national levels in a highly regarded statewide law-enforcement accreditation program,” Delgado noted at a township council meeting on Dec. 5. “The New Jersey State Association law-enforcement accreditation program is designed to enhance professionalism and transparency in state police safety systems.”
Delgado added that reaccreditation “best practices has become part of the police department’s culture. That’s what they do every day when they do their police services.”
The NJSACOP conducted an overall assessment of the police department on Aug. 28 by examining its policies and procedures, management, operations and support services. The association awarded reaccreditation in October.
At the council session, Police Chief Arthur Waterman emphasized appreciation for his department and its daily dedication and pursuit of excellence, noting that reaccreditation represents the commitment of all police personnel to Medford residents.
Accreditation Manager Capt. William Dunleavy and Assistant Accreditation Manager Lt. Jeffrey Samalonis were critical to the reaccreditation process, providing the required documents and presentations for the police department’s evaluation, Waterman also noted.
