The Women’s Opportunity Center in Delran is one of the locations where Virtua Health’s 40-foot cancer screening van is making a pit stop.

The launch of Virtua Health’s 40-foot cancer-screening van will provide South Jersey residents with free mammograms and other cancer screenings with or without insurance through the New Jersey Cancer Education and Early Detection Screening Program (NJCEED).

The Women’s Opportunity Center in Delran is one of the locations where the van is making a pit stop on Nov. 15. Virtua launched the service in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October and it has been making multiple stops so women and men can get mammograms and other vital cancer screenings, all in one place.

The van accepts most major insurance plans and provides free services to people without insurance, according to a press release from Virtua Health. A prescription will be provided during the patient’s mammogram appointment, saving an extra trip to the doctor.

“We offer a great experience for patients on this new vehicle,” said Michelle Fisher, the unit’s advanced practice nurse. “It feels like you’re in a regular medical office, including the same state-of-the-art equipment and our caring Virtua staff. I’d encourage anyone who’s due for their annual mammogram to give us a call.

“Early detection saves lives.”

The Mobile Health and Cancer Screening Unit provides 3D mammography, clinical breast exams, gynecological exams, Pap tests, colorectal screening via a take-home stool kit or colonoscopy referrals and PSA tests for men to screen for prostate cancer, a service only for the uninsured.
