American Legion hosts Veterans Haven race

5K Run and 1-mile walk to take place on Veterans Day, Saturday, Nov. 11 and to benefit Veterans Haven South in Winslow.

American Legion Post 38 in Haddonfield has opened registration for the ninth annual Veterans Haven 5K run and 1-mile walk. This year’s race will take place on Saturday, Nov. 11 – Veterans Day – from Christ the King Church.

The certified and chip timed event will begin at 9 a.m. at the cross section of Windsor and Hopkins avenues. Participants will race a 3.1-mile course through the Camden County park adjacent to the historic Cooper River in Cherry Hill.

Proceeds will benefit Veterans Haven South in Winslow, a facility for homeless and unemployed veterans that offers transitional shelter and help with gaining employment. To date, the race has resulted in $89,000 for the facility.

Packet pickup and registration is available from noon to 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, at Haddonfield Running Company, 121 Kings Highway East in the borough. On race day, a registration booth will be open from 8 to 9 a.m. in the basement of the church. Race packets can be picked up at either location.

The discounted $40 early-bird registration fee ends Nov. 4 and increases to $45, with signups open until race day. The entry fee includes a collectible race shirt, chip timing, custom bibs and race leader medals. After the event, participants and volunteers can get y beverages fron Double Nickel brewery, small bites from Chick’s Deli and Bread Board Plus, and sweets from Lou & Ann’s Deli. More than $1,000 in prizes and gift cards from local businesses will be raffled.

The race will be sponsored in part by the Michaels Organization, Bayada, Jackson Funeral Home, Romash and Crowell Physical Therapy, Premier Energy Group and Hutchinson Business Solutions. Sponsorships are available for businesses and individuals who want to support the veterans cause.
