Jazz goes live in Voorhees

Performers will showcase 'timeless' pieces and blend the blues with soul

Jazz night in Voorhees is a first, but an extension of the township’s popular summer concert series.

Voorhees residents are invited to a live jazz performance on Friday, Sept. 29, that will feature The Budesa Brothers and Jerry Tannenbaum.

They will showcase “timeless jazz pieces” that blend the blues and soul in their original compositions. The two performers have been South Jersey staples, performing in Voorhees as well as the Camden County and Philadelphia regions.

Voorhees Events and Business Development Administrator Stella Sytnik is excited about the free event after a successful summer music series.

“Last year we had the country music night, and it was a success, so this is another exciting, new event that we are hosting,” she said of the jazz show. “The event is going to be at the town center out front of town hall. The performers are amazing – experienced in a lot of music.”

Rich Bodsea plays the organ and piano and his brother Robert is on guitar. Both are vocalists.

“What makes them special is that while they will be performing jazz for us, they really can perform any type of music,” Sytnik noted.

Tannebaum is a drummer who is also connected to the Eastern Regional High School band. He and The Budesa Brothers look forward to their first performance together.

In addition to the jazz performance, there will be activities, food and drinks. Beer and cocktails will be sponsored by Dooney’s Beer Garden and Luscious Liqueur Events Mobile Bar signature mocktails will be made fresh.

“The mocktails are a new, nice addition to our music scene, so we are excited for that,” Sytnik said. “It’s not something we have offered before …”

Food vendors will be Jay’z Crazed Confections, Maria’s Authentic Food, Matty G Dogz LLC and FoodEnvi.

“It should be interesting,” Sytnik predicated. “(The township) is very excited to see how it goes.”
