Black history showcased on walking tour

The intersection of Douglas and Lincoln avenues has long been a historic gathering place for Haddonfield’s Black community. The borough’s historical society wants to preserve that history through walking tours, signage and narratives from seniors in the African American community. (Special to the Sun/The Sun)

The first official walking tour by the Preserving Black Haddonfield History Project (PBHHP) will take place on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 10 a.m.

The tour will include 12 sites, beginning at Centennial Field, Park Place and Lincoln Avenue. In addition to local civic and philanthropic leaders, PBHHP expects to draw students, parents and members of the clergy. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.

A registration link and additional information about the Preserving Black Haddonfield History Project are available on the local history page of the Haddonfield library website at https://www.haddonfieldlibrary.org/local-history. For more information, call (917) 497-8874.

A suggested donation for participation in the tour is $10 and cash donations will be collected at the event.
