The event is open to those 21 and over, and two-person teams will compete for cash prizes.

The Mantua Township Soccer Association (MTSA) will host the first cornhole tournament fundraiser in its history on Saturday Sept. 30, at the township VFW.

“This is our first annual cornhole tournament to raise funds for our travel and recreation teams,” said MTSA fundraising Chair Erin Klein.

Registration for the event can be done by scanning a QR code provided on the MTSA Facebook page, registering on the day of the event at 4 p.m., or signing up through the MTSA website. Play will begin at 5 p.m. Community members can also watch the event, and the day will include a barbeque dinner, beer and wine.

The fee to simply watch the event is $35 and $45 and $50 to register a team of two. It can be paid in person with cash, through Venmo at mantuatownship-soccerassociati on the app or by emailing fundraising@mantuasoccer.com to arrange cash or check payments.

The fundraiser is open to those 21 and over, and the two-person teams will battle it out in a tournament style of play. Cash prizes will go to teams who finish in first ($400), second ($200) and third place ($100).

“We are raising funds for our recreation and travel teams to receive free training by professional soccer trainers all year,” Klein explained of the event. “We are expecting approximately 75 to 100 people with 35 to 40 cornhole teams.”

The MTSA is open to boys and girls and has games and practices at the soccer fields of Chestnut Branch Park. Registration for the season has closed, but will be available again in the spring of 2024.

“Our spring fundraiser was very successful, and I am really anticipating this one to be even better,” said Klein.
