Registration open for Haddonfield senior memoir project

Interested participants should contact Sheri Siegel to register (email is preferable) at [email protected] or (856) 354-8789.

The third annual Mabel Kay’s Memoir Project is coming up and the senior center is looking for volunteers.

The project is a collaboration with Haddonfield Memorial High School in which seniors get an opportunity to document their life stories with a little help from students in ninth grade English classes.

Students do interviews and write the memoirs, and one hard copy is provided to participants. Additional copies are also available for family gifts and keepsakes. There will be a memoir handoff event just before the winter holidays, on a date to be determined.

“Intergenerational programming is one of our goals at Mabel Kay, such a great way for kids to learn from you and you to learn from the kids,” said Sheri Siegel, coordinator for the senior center.

Interested seniors are asked to read the registration information and only sign up if they can make all three of the project dates in both sessions, out of fairness to other seniors and to the freshmen who will be graded on their work. Email or call Siegel to register (email is preferable) at [email protected] or (856) 354-8789.

When you reply, indicate if you have a session preference. Interviews will be held in back of Mabel Kay, weather permitting. If you participated last year, you are ineligible to do so this year unless there is extra space. If there is an abundance of seniors interested, preference will be given to Haddonfield residents.

Projects sessions are as follows:

Session 1: Tuesday, Oct. 3, 17 and 31, 10 to 10:50 a.m.

Session 2: Tuesday, same dates, from 1:45-2:45 p.m.
