Church hosts annual food truck fest

Proceeds go towards church's Prime Time Ministry

The Church of the Incarnation in Mantua will host its third annual food truck festival on Friday, Sept. 15, from 5 to 8 p.m.

The event will feature food from various local businesses, including Botto’s, Carolina Blue, Traveling Tomato and Mr. Softee. All are welcome whether or not they live in Mantua or attend the church.

“We’re trying to have a community event for both the parish and Mantua,” said church Business Manager Patti Houwen. “Anybody can come in during the festival and purchase food from the food trucks that will be there. Even if you’re someone just looking to have something to do on a Friday night, we’ll take you.”

On top of food trucks, there will also be live music provided by Hazzardous Lederhosen, games for kids and a raffle with three prizes. Top prize is a basket of cheer with alcoholic beverages, second is a dinner with the church’s Father Steven Bertonazzi, and third is a handmade quilt from the church quilting club.

According to Houwen, last year’s festival drew between 500 to 600 people and the church hopes to see more this month.

“I think it’s a good opportunity to come and meet people from both the church and community,” she said.

Proceeds from the festival will help fund activities of the church’s prime-time senior ministry, a group of elderly church-goers who meet every Tuesday and Thursday after the church’s 8:30 a.m. morning mass for music, Bingo, fellowship and food.

The first food truck event was held in October of 2021, still in the grip of the pandemic. To the church, the festival was a way to help bridge the gap between the church and the township.

All are welcome whether or not they live in Mantua or attend the church. Tickets for the event can be purchased at the church’s office, 240 Main St.

“It is open to everybody,” said Houwen. “All are welcome to the event.”
