Taylor Mason is a former Moorestown resident, comedy magician, ventriloquist, musician and standup comedian.
First Methodist Church (FMC) in Moorestown will host Taylor Mason for a night of comedy at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, in its fellowship hall.
Tickets are $25 and include dessert and beverages.
“He’s incredible,” said event organizer Lisa Kulp. “He brings a whole family of his own ventriloquist puppets. He writes music and he sings … He is really, really talented, kid-friendly, positive (and) hilarious. (His show) is very clean and family friendly.”
Mason, a former Moorestown resident, is a comedy magician, ventriloquist, musician and standup comedian who has performed at venues that include Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House. According to his website, he’s made many movie, TV and commercial appearances, won a “Star Search” competition and written a book on ventriloquism.
Mason’s 25-year career has taken him all over the world, and he has previously appeared at the church. Kulp is excited to see Mason’s puppets again.
“To get the audience to interact with the ventriloquist puppets … people almost think they’re real,” she noted. “He really engages people with these puppets.”
Kulp is a member of FMC’s “funraising” committee who looks forward to its upcoming events, including Trunk or Treat; pizza and Santa in December; a wreath-making event; and a health-and-wellness fair in January, among others.
“The funraising committee is … it’s not about the money,” she explained. “It’s really about bridging fellowship and community and helping each other. That’s really what we’re doing; we’re helping each other be better people … There’s a lot of intentionality with some of these things as well.”
Kulp sees FMC events as opportunities for residents to have fun nights out that will bring people of all ages together.
“This is something that you need,” she noted. “You need to have something positive in your life. You really need to be able to lift yourself and others up. You just need to go and you just cannot worry.”
As someone who’s seen Mason perform before, Kulp wants his show to have the same impact on others that it did on her.
“This is what I hope people take away from the show,” she pointed out. “That families can come together and laugh together, and go home happy … Because you will walk out of there laughing. He’s a great, great entertainer and human.”
