Several area animal shelters are partnering with Earthwise Mantua in the township for the Clear the Shelter pet adoption rescue event on Sunday, Aug. 27, from noon to 4 p.m.

The shelters include Don’t Bully Us Dog Rescue, South Jersey Rescue and A Future for Ferals Cat Rescue. The event will offer adoptions of new pets – either a dog or cat – and free adoption kits that include a complimentary food bag, custom meal plan, welcome-home checklist and follow-up support.

“It includes the stuff they need to help take care of pets,” said Earthwise’s owner, Kelly White. “We try so hard to help here, but there’s not enough room at these shelters for all these animals.”

Earthwise wants to promote the participating shelters and give them a chance to match owners with pets. A Future for Ferals, for instance, is run by a woman in her 20s, her mother and sisters.

“They try to take care of stray cats and I commend them, since they do so much to help them,” White said of that shelter. “They’ve had as many as 60 cats and kittens in the past.”

Don’t Bully Us Dog Rescue operates in the Philadelphia and New Jersey area and is also a nonprofit that specializes in rescuing pitbulls and other bully dog breeds.

“Our mission is to rescue, educate, and promote responsible lifetime ownership,” Don’t Bully Us states on its website. “Our vision is a society with compassion and kindness toward pit bull-type dogs. We will help build a community, without prejudice or breed-specific legislation.”

Several tables with information for new and current pet owners will be set up at the Clear the Shelter event to take donations, regardless of whether or not a pet is adopted. There will also be opportunities for food donations. The pet-food brand Farmina is a major sponsor for the event.

Funds raised will be split between Earthwise Mantua, at 661 Mantua Pike, and the participating shelters.

“It makes me happy to help all these animals and it’s my goal to help them,” said White.
