‘A simple get together’

Association brings food trucks to Main Street

The Moorestown Business Association’s (MBA) annual block party will feature more than a dozen food trucks on Main Street on Wednesday, Aug. 16.

“I think that one thing we learned about the pandemic is that people… They need each other more than they realize,” said Steven Pazienza, event chair. “These types of events … I think it really gives you that opportunity to reconnect and you go home and say, ‘Well that was more enjoyable than I thought.’”

Pazienza approached the association with the block party idea after seeing other towns host events that brought people together before the school year. The party continues to grow daily, and although it was canceled in 2020 because of COVID, it’s still a staple for residents.

“I think folks look forward to it just to come back and see their neighbors,” Pazienza said. “ … It’s been well received, I think people have fun and they look forward to their favorite food truck.”

The event starts at 5 p.m. and Main Street will be closed between Chester Avenue and Church Street. There will be musical entertainment, al fresco dining, special offerings from local restaurants and for the first time, beer and wine will be sold.

“This is the first year that we have beer and wine and that doesn’t happen without the support of council,” Pazienza said. “Right now it’s a nice, working environment … I feel like it’s a nice relationship where people are all working together rather than against one another.”

Seeing how the block party crowds continue to grow, Pazienza wants to keep it as it is.

“I don’t want to lose the whole premise for the event,” he remarked. “Bigger doesn’t always mean better. Moorestown is a nice community, and I think that people enjoy getting to know their neighbors. This is really just an extension of that.”

“It’s really just a simple get-together.”
