Cherry HIll Board of Education to submit acting superintendent candidate for approval

The board of education will vote to submit Dr. Kwame Morton for the County Superintendent’s approval to serve as acting superintendent while the search for a permanent superintendent takes place.

Following a comprehensive and thoughtful search process, the Cherry Hill Board of Education at its meeting on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, will vote to authorize submission of an employment contract for its choice for Acting Superintendent to the Executive County Superintendent of Camden County.

The Board will vote on a resolution to submit for the County Superintendent’s approval an employment contract with Dr. Kwame Morton, who currently serves the District as Assistant Superintendent, PreK-12 and Curriculum and Instruction, to serve as the District’s Acting Superintendent while a search is undertaken for a permanent Superintendent.

After the Board has received the County Superintendent’s approval of the contract, it will formally vote to appoint Morton as Acting Superintendent effective July 1, 2023.  The District’s current Superintendent, Dr. Joseph N. Meloche, is retiring at the end of the month. 

Morton joined the Cherry Hill Public Schools in 2008 as principal of Joyce Kilmer Elementary School.  He moved on to the position of principal of Cherry Hill High School West in September 2013 and then to  his current position in September 2021.
