County postpones repairs to Forklanding Road Bridge

A detour will utilize Lenola Road and routes 70 and 130

Burlington County is postponing repair work to the Forklanding Road Bridge (A4.8) until Monday, June 19, while county construction crews finish emergency repairs to the Main Street Bridge between Moorestown and Maple Shade.

Repairs on the more than century-old steel truss span over Pennsauken Creek were originally scheduled to begin June 5 and last about eight weeks. A construction team from the county’s Construction Services Division will do the work and a detour will utilize Lenola Road and routes 70 and 130.

County engineer Joseph Brickley said the decision to delay the work was made to prevent traffic concerns from the emergency closure of the nearby Main Street span, which also crosses Pennsauken Creek. Emergency repairs there are nearly complete.

“Our team of skilled construction workers have succeeded in advancing the repairs to shore up the Main Street Bridge structure, and we’re optimistic that we’ll be able to safely reopen that bridge to motor vehicles soon,” Brickley said.

“Postponing the Forklanding Road Bridge work for just two weeks should alleviate potential traffic and fire and emergency response concerns from having two nearby crossings closed at the same time.”

The county plans to undertake a full bridge replacement late next year.
