A message from Mayor Joann Gattinelli – week of June 7-14

Washington Township Mayor Joann Gattinelli

Memorial Day

I along with the Veterans Advisory Board were proud to hold our annual Memorial Day
Ceremony in person at Franklin Atkinson Memorial Park. This is a day of remembrance and gratitude. We’d like to thank Veterans Advisory Board.

During the ceremony, Councilman Jack Yerkes and I offered words of gratitude for our veterans and their sacrifices. We are thankful for everyone that came out to join us to show our veterans the respect and honor they deserve. The Washington Township Police Department Honor Guard performed a 21-gun salute in honor of our fallen heroes. I would also like to express my appreciation for all of the veterans that were present at the Memorial Day service.

I would like to thank Brian Bailey, as well as the rest of the Veterans Affairs Advisory Board for organizing this ceremony and for all of their great work they do for our veterans. Your hard work and dedication are much appreciated and acknowledged. This is a day which is reserved for those heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice. A day of grieving, and a day to celebrate the lost lives of our Armed Forces. We honor the fallen heroes and acknowledge the sacrifices they have made for the citizens of our Nation; so that we may live free. Memorial Day is the time for Americans to reconnect with history and core values by honoring those who gave their lives so that we could enjoy the freedoms we enjoy today.

The United States of America is grateful for the sacrifices and valor of those we lost and we will never forget. Your loss will never be forgotten; your loved ones will be celebrated not just every year on this date, but every day.
