Deptford to bring community together with movie and camp-out night

Deptford camp-out night meant to ‘bring community together’

The film Minions: The Rise of Gru will be on the bill when Deptford hosts its free family movie and camp-out night on Friday, June 2.

The event begins at 7:30 p.m. at the lower level of Fasola Park, also known as Central Lane. Campfires will be monitored by township personnel and residents can bring tents for the optional camp out.

“We came up with it about six years ago where we already did monthly movie nights, and one of our recreation people said, ‘Let’s do a camp out,’” said Mayor Paul Medany. “… They’re meant to bring the community together and to have fun.”

Boy Scouts will help with set-up and food will be provided during the evening and the next morning. Minions: The Rise of Gru has a run time of one hour and 27 minutes. The mayor and council are expected to participate and staff from the public works and parks and recreation departments will monitor activities.

Attendees who spend the night will dine on coffee and doughnuts in the morning and can linger for a while.

The movie and camp-out night is a part of a summer events schedule in the township that includes a family fun show in June, July and August, and the yearly food truck festival on Saturday, Aug. 26.

“We have plenty of space and everybody is welcome,” Medany said of the upcoming events.

To register for events, contact the Deptford parks and recreation department at (856) 845-0804 or by email at [email protected] by Saturday May 27.
