This Sunday (April 30) is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, and the Burlington County Animal Shelter is joining numerous shelters nationwide that are hosting special open houses to help find loving forever homes for the dogs and cats that reside there.
The special National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day Open House will be held this Sunday, April 30, from noon to 4 p.m. During the event, visitors can meet all the amazing animals available for adoption from the shelter or from foster homes.
All adoption fees will be waived that day.
“The Burlington County Animal Shelter staff and volunteers do an outstanding job caring for the dogs, cats and other animals at the shelter, but what these pets need most is a loving home of their own,” said Burlington County Commissioner Dan O’Connell, the liaison to the animal shelter. “For people looking for a new pet, this event is the perfect opportunity to meet some of the loveable animals waiting for new homes.”
Among the dogs and cats that visitors can meet this weekend include:
- Bohdi, a 5-year-old American Pit Bull terrier mix who has spent more than a year at the shelter. Bohdi is sweet, outgoing and loves to play with toys and go for walks or runs.
- Hudson, an approximately 10-month-old, orange and white Domestic Shorthair cat. Hudson is shy but curious and sweet once he gets to know you. He also gets along with other friendly cats.
- Duke, a 2-year-old brown and white Pitbull mix. Duke is a playful and friendly pooch who came to the shelter as a stray. He loves toys and treats and easily makes friends with new people.
- Smoke, an 11-year-old Australian Shepherd who was placed in the shelter after his owners moved away. Smoke is full of pep and looking for a wonderful forever home.
- Douglas, a 4-year-old Domestic Shorthair tabby cat. Douglas has recovered from a toe amputation but remains affectionate and playful. He also gets along with other cats.
All dogs and cats adopted from the shelter are spayed or neutered and brought up to date with vaccinations. All pets available for adoption can be viewed online at https://24petconnect.com/.
“These are just some of the wonderful dogs and cats at our shelter. Each would make great family pets or companions in the right home and Sunday’s open house is a perfect opportunity to meet them,” O’Connell said. “Close to 1,200 cats and more than 450 dogs were adopted from our shelter last year, but we’re looking forward to additional success stories this year.
