Adult and senior programs at the rec center

Activities include pickleball, tennis and more

The rec department has many programs this spring and summer for adults – from the ever-popular pickleball to card playing and tennis.

Adult softball will begin on Tuesday, May 16. This long running Moorestown program is looking for new teams to join in on the fun. They play on Tuesday or Thursday nights at Jeff Young Park under the lights. Register as a team or an individual through the recreation website.

The REC Senior Women’s Club meets every Tuesday afternoon at the New Albany Recreation Center. This warm, embracing group offers coffee, snacks, crafts, games, book swaps and good company. They also run two to three bus trips each year and plan special live musical events – singing along, optional. For further information contact Terry Kelly at (856) 866-1869.

The Senior Card Club meets on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon at the New Albany Rec Center. For further information call Frank McAleer at (856) 905-1883. No registration is necessary for the senior programs.

Pickleball sessions are for adults 18 and over. This sport has become extremely popular because of its accessibility – it’s easy to learn at any age or fitness level, very engaging and has a social component. If you have never played we are offering indoor learn to play sessions at the REC. Sessions are in the mornings on Mondays or Fridays.

Beginner adult tennis starts on Tuesday, May 23, and will be held every Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Missy Mercer is a USPTR certified tennis instructor who will teach the basic strokes and introduce you to a sport you can play throughout your life.
