Mission Voice 5k race/walk and Moorestown Paddleboard and Kayak Race raises funds for community

Come out and support some great causes to benefit our community. Start with Mission Voice’s 5K race/walk on Saturday, April 29, to benefit the rec department’s programming for local children and young adults with special needs. On Saturday, June 10, the Strawbridge Lake Beautification Committee (SLBC) will host the fifth annual Paddleboard and Kayak Race and Family Festival.

Mission Voice’s 5K run/walk will be held on Saturday, April 29, at Strawbridge Lake from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Join friends and neighbors, runners and walkers. To register for the race, visit https://runsignup.com/Race/NJ/Moorestown/MissionVoice5k. There is a registration fee of $35, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the innovative and inclusive programming offered through parks and rec, specifically summer camp for children with disabilities.

According to the race organizer Lisa O’Donnell, Mission Voice is thrilled to partner with Quaker Wealth Management for this year’s race. “It’s the perfect way to spend a spring day outside and support really important programs for children with special needs,” O’Donnell said. “It is such a joy-filled day.”

There’s something for everyone at the fifth annual Moorestown Paddleboard and Kayak Race and Family Festival on Saturday, June 10. Compete in the race, explore the beauty of the park, enjoy the live music, food trucks and microbrewery beer garden. No water race experience or craft required. There will be boards and kayaks available on site to rent or you can bring your own. All proceeds go to the care and maintenance of Strawbridge Lake.

SLBC was incorporated as a non-profit in 2018 with the mission of restoring and maintaining Strawbridge Lake. Strawbridge Lake began as a widening of Hooten’s Creek from 1931 to 1938 to provide jobs during the Depression. Esther Strawbridge Brophy donated 25 acres of land that became today’s 70-acre park.
