The Harrison Township Recreation Commission’s annual Celebration on Main event – also known as Harrison Township Day – will take place on Saturday, June 3, on Mullica Hill’s Main Street.

The free event – from 5 to 9 p.m. – celebrates the different aspects of the community and will include amusement rides, live music, food vendor giveaways, a balloon artist and a DJ to provide music. Main Street merchants will all be open for business and have their own specials.

“We do it (Celebration on Main) to benefit our local merchants and to bring the community together,” said recreation coordinator Sharon Chew. “It’s a great, fun-filled day …

“Kids are getting ready to get out of school for the summer,” she added, “and it’s a time for people in the community to come together and have a nice day with friends and family.”

The event will close with a show of fireworks provided by Brian Horn, the owner of Stags Leap Ranch in Mullica Hill. Attendance is expected to be about 2,000 to 2,500 people. Harrison Mayor Louis Manzo is expected to be present, along with the other  township committee members.

Main Street will remain open to traffic for the day of the event, and while there will be no additional bus trips, there will be parking available on the street and at the municipal building. Handicapped spots will be available at U.S Construction and Harmony Fire House, both on Main Street.

The event is being funded by the recreation commission and by sponsors such as Inspira Health Mullica Hill that will host free health screenings. Those will take place across from Old Town Hall, near the vendor setups.

“I would like to thank our sponsors for helping out with the event,” said Chew. “We would not be able to do this without their support.”
