Save the date for virtual neighborhood open house and workshop

How do you feel about your neighborhood?

A 15-minute neighborhood open house and workshop conducted by a team of researchers and students from Rutgers University will be held on Thursday, March 30.

The virtual event will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Participants will be asked questions like,  What makes your neighborhood a great place to live? What types of neighborhood amenities are most important to you?And what is a 15- minute neighborhood?

The Rutgers Edward Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy – with the Nature Conservancy group – will explore in that time how such neighborhoods can make New Jersey communities healthier and more resilient while reducing greenhouse gas emissions from transportation.

The 15-minute neighborhoods provide residents with access to parks, schools, gathering places, social services, places to buy healthy fresh food and other amenities within a comfortable walk or bike ride. They also offer easy access to frequent and reliable public transit.

Thriving 15-minute neighborhoods include a mix of housing types and a range of desired destinations, along with features such as traffic calming, green infrastructure, and lighting that builds a sense of community and encourages people to drive less.
