Deptford will host a spring and craft fair on Saturday, May 20, to highlight spring crafts from small-business vendors.
The event comes off of the success of the holiday bazaar a few months ago, which got positive feedback from both attendees and vendors. About 500 people were on hand, along with 40 vendors, according to Deptford Mayor Paul Medany.
“It was a successful event,” he said. “Both the vendors and visitors were happy with it, so we thought that we should do it again. It (the spring show) will be basically the same thing, but with a spring theme.”
The township expects another large crowd for the spring show. Along with crafts, there will be
local artists, fruit and produce vendors and flowers and shrubs. The mayor sees the event as an important one for the township, not only because of its activities, but for the chance for small businesses to grow and expand.
“Crafters need to get their goods out, and it’s good for people to see homemade products,” Medany noted. “It is very important to us as a township, since we want people to know what we’re doing in Deptford.”
The township council will also be represented at the fair to promote upcoming events and give residents the chance to meet its local government officials.
“All of these events (that we do) help people meet the council, since they don’t really get the chance to do so,” Medany explained. “From our perspective, it’s very important, as it’s a main focus of ours to build community spirit. We have a lot of fun doing these things.”
The spring and craft fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the township community center.
Vendors who want to participate can contact the Deptford Parks and Recreation department at email@example.com for an application.
Other spring events in the township include an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday April 1, at Deptford Central Park; an Earth Day cleanup at the municipal building on Saturday, April 22; and the return of outdoor movie nights at First Flight Park beginning Friday, May 5.
