Monroe Township rolls out new recycling and trash pickup routes

Notice of changes is occurring on social media, other platforms

Monroe Township will reroute its recycling and trash pickup collection routes beginning Monday.

The new collection routes – an effort by the township to become more efficient – will affect 40 to 50% of residents, according to Recycling Coordinator Debbie Bender. She noted the effective date of the changes was chosen so it would not conflict with holidays, which affect trash and recycling collection.

“This will give the residents five weeks of normal trash collection,” she said.

The changes will mostly concentrate the trucks in one area on each collection day, Monday through Thursday. The township public works department has been using a number of platforms to let residents know about the new routes, including social media, newspapers, the Gloucester County and Monroe board of education robo messages and stickers on trash cans.

For the new Monday and Thursday routes, bulk pickup will be on the first and third Friday of each month. For the Tuesday and Wednesday routes, bulk pickup will be the second and fourth Friday of each month.

A list of the new recycling and trash pickup collection routes can be found on the township’s website at https://monroetownshipnj.org/3-2/public-works/trash-recycling-route-maps/.
