Helping Hands hoagie sale nets about 2,500 sandwiches

The 29th annual Helping Hands hoagie sale was a success.

Hundreds of Washington Township students, staff, administrators and community members convened early in the morning on Super Bowl Sunday to make thousands of foot-long hoagies for the sale, which raises money for township families in need.

The approximately 2,500 sandwiches made were sold for $10 each, according to the Helping Hands Hoagie committee.

The annual event is hosted by the Washington Township Education Foundation (WTEF) and is the township school district’s signature community service event. Each year, it yields in excess of $30,000 that is distributed throughout the community. Donations included financial support from Liscio’s Bakery, which essentially carried the event through COVID.

“We are eternally grateful for the assistance that Liscio’s Bakery provided to keep our sale alive during the past several years through COVID,” education foundation President Charlie Doud said.

“We are so happy to embrace our normal operations, to give students a meaningful community service experience, and to continue to support our local families who are facing health challenges.”
