Calling all those who love memorabilia and collectibles: The Cherry HIll library will host its first fair with those kinds of items on Saturday, March 4.
The guest speaker will be appraiser Michael Osacky, president of Baseball in the Attic, a vintage sports card and memorabilia collections company. He is a professional sports authenticator, a certified uniform standards of professional appraisal practice appraiser, and an accredited member of the International Society of Appraisers.
Osacky will talk about his work with sports cards and memorabilia and will do live appraisals. Space is limited for those and items must be approved by library staff prior to the event.
Attendees can register to have one sports item appraised for $15 per person.
Meredith Meyer, fundraising and volunteer coordinator for the library, anticipates that the fair will be similar to craft events the library has done in the past.
“We’ve done a number of different types (of fairs) and we really thought this would be a fun version of one,’ she said. “We also have a lot of staff that are into that type of thing, or they know people who would really be interested in doing it. And we all agreed it’d be a good version of a vendor fair to try.”
The library is now putting out a call for collectors and sellers who may be interested in the fair. Suggested items include coins; stamps; vintage toys; small antiques; and vinyl records, among others. The list is expansive and not all inclusive, but the announcement of the fair on the library’s website notes the event is not for handmade items.
“The biggest thing is what we don’t want; it’s not a flea market,” Meyer said. “So we’re not looking for somebody cleaning out their basement and bringing all their things. We’re specifically looking for something somebody would be looking to collect.”
Fair hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the lower level of the library. Registration is required to have a sports item appraised at $15 a person. Email mmeyer@chplnj.org.
Vendor registration is $30 and includes an 8-foot table and two chairs. To reserve a spot, submit a registration form to the library website and vendor fee to Meyer at the above email. Those who want to cancel their registration or appraisals by Osacky can do so one week prior to the event in order to receive a refund.
