Mantua video provides tips on healthy living

Mantua Township has posted a video on its social media pages that offers advice on how to stay healthy in 2023.

The minute-long video addresses five ways people can stay healthy on a daily basis: Keep an active body and mind by practicing exercises for each and managing stress effectively, consume balanced and nutritious foods, get proper sleep of about eight hours a night, stay hydrated and don’t forget to smile now and again.

“We’re all conscious about our own health and we all want to live a healthy lifestyle,” said Mayor Robert Zimmerman. “It’s … a good time of the year to do this with New Year’s resolutions. I’ve had open-heart surgery in the past so it’s a big thing for me and residents.”

The video also features a young man putting the above steps into practice at the Mantua municipal building and features different graphics and GIFs of cartoon characters like Winnie the Pooh and Donald Duck.

The idea for the production came from two part-time township employees and Rowan University graduates who interned with Mantua during college and also shot and edited the video. The duo are the creators of Mantua’s YouTube channel as well, though the health video has yet to be added on that site.

“We have a couple of young gentlemen who are helping us out with getting this stuff out,” said Zimmerman. “We’re thrilled to have them, and they’ll be instrumental in helping the township.  They ran it themselves.”

In the past, the township has offered proclamations of awareness pertaining to certain diseases, such as breast cancer and Pitt Hopkins Syndrome, with the hope that talking about such subjects can help people. Zimmerman himself is a big advocate for heart disease.

“I’ve found that telling my story has not only helped me out, but others as well,” he noted.

The township has also started posting videos of its fall events, including the Patriot Day ceremony and the Mantua VFW’s Veterans Day 5K. A video about Halloween safety offered tips from Police Chief Darren White.

“As the new year starts, let’s set new goals, develop new goals and commit to living healthy this year, in 2023,” says the health video’s narrator.
