Lions Club holiday parade shines bright

Santa is main attraction for annual township event

Special to The Sun: Santa will be the main attraction at the Moorestown Lions Club’s holiday parade on Dec. 3.

The Moorestown Lions Club invites the community to attend its annual holiday parade on Dec. 3, an event whose theme will be Disney on parade.

“It’s been going around for over 60 years now, so it’s something that Moorestown loves to do,” said Ashley Ward, club vice president.

“Last year was Snow Much Fun, like snowflakes,” she said of the 2021 theme. “So this time, we have Disney,” Ward said. “It’ll be fun to see what all the floats turn out to be.”

The parade will start at about 11:30 a.m. at Chester Avenue, head down Main Street, and end at Church Street. Santa’s sled will close out the festivities.

Last year’s event included the Aqua and Woodland string bands, the Burlington County Special Services School and Moorestown High School bands, cheerleaders and a dance team. Girl Scouts, Brownies and Cub Scouts all competed for prizes in float and marching group categories with awards based on adherence to the theme.

The parade lineup will include a variety of floats, Brownie troop and Boy Scout members and string bands. Brownie Troop 20002 will collect toys for the county sheriff’s department toy drive.

Ward enjoys seeing Santa’s sled ride down Main Street, and she praised the Lions Club for bringing magic to the community.

“It’s really a team effort,” she noted. “You have to have team effort to do what we do in this club, and if you don’t have team effort, you have nothing. It takes a team to make something like this blossom.”

Ward wants people to have fun at the club’s events but also take away something else.

“ … Just understanding that what we’re doing is benefitting not only the people who need things, but the people around them that watch the people who need things,” she explained. “It could be anything: It could be financial, it could be glasses, it could be hearing aids.”

“It could be really anything.”

Club member Jack Lance oversees the club float with Ward, something she views as special.

“The Lions Club sled is the main event of the parade. That is the main attraction, and Santa is that main attraction.”
