Leaders of the township’s Cub Scouts will attend leadership training at the Mantua Masonic Lodge on Dec. 10 that will feature other Scout leaders throughout South Jersey.
“This event is a training course for adults that are Cub Scout leaders in local Scout units,” said Michael Perry, program director for the Garden State Council of Boy Scouts of America. “The training will equip them with the tools and resources to lead Scout events and meetings within the Cub Scout program.
The training is open to adults in the following counties: Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, Salem, Cumberland and Cape May. Leaders can choose to train for one of three leadership positions in a Cub Scout pack, according to Perry: Cub master or assistant, den leader or assistant, committee chair or member.
Perry will be at the training along with volunteers to instruct the aspiring Cub Scout leaders. The session will be in person but will also be available online with creation of an account at my.scouting.org.
The in-person training will enable participants to build connections with other Cub Scout leaders and ask questions. The course itself is held on a quarterly basis during the year, also at the Stonemasons-run township lodge.
“Mantua Masonic Lodge has been a partner with Scouting in the Mantua community,” said Perry. “It provides meeting space and serves as the chartered organization for Mantua Pack 45.”
The township is home to Pack 45, which performs community service and also teaches Scouts important life skills as they make memories. The pack is open to township boys and girls in kindergarten through fifth grade.
The leadership training will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Registration is $10 and is required online at https://scoutingevent.com/690-cubleadertraining. For other information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
