Police will host senior Thanksgiving and Coffee with a Cop

Besides free food, attendees can learn about workings of police

Harrison Township Police Department. The Thanksgiving Meal and Coffee with a Cop started 24 years ago as a way to give back to seniors in the township.

Harrison Township police will host their 24th senior citizen Thanksgiving Meal and Coffee with a Cop at headquarters on Nov. 16, just in time for the Thanksgiving season.

The events give seniors in Mullica Hill the chance to not only have a free meal, but also the chance to get to know some of Harrison’s officers on a more personal basis and gain insight into how they spend their time on the job.

We will be providing the senior citizens of Mullica Hill a Thanksgiving meal and the opportunity for them to have Coffee with a Cop when they pick up their meal,” said Harrison police Capt.  Adam McEvoy.

“It started 24 years ago as a way to give back to the senior citizens of the township,” he added.  “Several officers will be on location to assist with the event.”

Seniors can arrive at the police station, 199 Colson Lane, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to pick up food in the lobby provided by the Harrison House Diner, an eatery that has served meals to people inside and outside of Mullica Hill for more than 40 years, according to its website.

“We have been lucky enough to have such a generous business in the Harrison House Diner, who has graciously provided the meals free of charge year in and year out,” McEvoy noted. “In years past, we have had over 120 residents come for the meal.”

Though the meals are free to seniors only, reserving a plate is required before the day of the event. To do that, seniors can call (856) 478-6839, ext. 1001, or email sgrimes@htwpd.us. Reservation deadline is Friday Nov. 11. The office hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for those who wish to call.
