- Special to The Sun: The Promenade in Marlton will host this year’s informative event on the benefits of owning an electric vehicle.
To celebrate National Drive Electric Week, TriCounty Sustainability (TCS) will again partner with the Evesham Green Team and the South Jersey Electric Vehicle Club to host an information event for residents interested in purchasing or learning about electric vehicles.
Dozens of electric vehicle drivers and enthusiasts will gather at The Promenade at Sagemore in Marlton from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, to highlight the climate, clean-air benefits and cost savings of electric vehicles.
The 12th annual National Drive Electric Week (NDEW), a coast-to-coast celebration of electric vehicles, was observed from Sept. 23 through Oct. 2 and included more than 180 online and in-person events. It was sponsored by national organizers Plug In America, the Electric Vehicle Association, the Sierra Club and EVHybridNoire. Nissan LEAF manufacturer was the exclusive automotive sponsor and Wells Fargo the exclusive banking sponsor.
Participants at the Marlton event will gather in the center of the complex, which will be cordoned off to traffic. Electric vehicle models will be on display and owners will show their cars and answer questions about cost, ownership, maintenance and driving experience. Information will be available on state incentives for electric cars and charging equipment, including residential chargers and how electric vehicles can be incorporated into municipal fleets.
Also on display will be New Jersey Transit’s first electric bus, scheduled to be in service soon in Camden County. Patrick McDevitt, chairman of energy and transportation for TriCounty Sustainability, noted state representatives will be in attendance at the event to discuss multiple incentives for purchasing an electric vehicle in New Jersey.
“We’ll have representation from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, since a lot of the state’s incentive programs run through them,” McDevitt explained. “So they’ll be on hand to explain some of the things the state is doing to help residents convert to electric cars.
“The transition is underway,” he added. “The state and federal government are putting a lot of financial investment into accelerating EV expansion. So we just want to be a resource for local citizens to find out what goes into switching over (to an electric vehicle) or driving electric in general.”Additional questions can be emailed to McDevitt at mcdev1965@comcast.net.
