The Deptford Township Police Department would like to announce the retirement of Chief Frank S. Newkirk. Chief Newkirk’s last day will be Oct. 14th. Chief Newkirk has dedicated 26 years of tireless, law enforcement service; with 25 years dedicated to the residents and stakeholders of Deptford Township. After graduating from Rowan University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, Chief Newkirk attended Basic Class #10 at the Gloucester County Police Academy via the Alternate Route Program, graduating on July 19, 1996.
Prior to his employment with the Deptford Township Police Department, Chief Newkirk proudly served as a Police Officer for the Rutgers University Police Department in Camden, NJ and the Lower Alloways Creek Township Police Department in Salem County, NJ.
During his tenure with the Deptford Township Police Department, Chief Newkirk has served as a Captain in the Operations Division, and as a Lieutenant commanding various Bureaus throughout the Agency, including Patrol, Criminal Investigations, and Internal Affairs. Prior to his promotion to Lieutenant, he served as a sergeant in the patrol division as well as the Criminal Investigations Division. One of Chief Newkirk’s proudest moments was when he became a Deptford Police K-9 Handler and attended the Philadelphia Police Department Canine Academy. Chief Newkirk graduated alongside his trusted K9 partner, Toby.
Chief Newkirk would like to thank his parents, his beloved wife Melissa, and their children Darius, Isabella, and Trevor for all of their support over his career. He would also like to thank his Command Staff for their continued support and counseling. Chief Newkirk commends the men and women of the Deptford Township Police Department for their hard work and dedication in making the department an asset to the residents of Deptford Township.
Lastly, Chief Newkirk would like to thank the residents of Deptford Township for their continued support. It is no secret that being a police administrator can be a difficult job. Chief Newkirk would like the residents of Deptford Township to know that he is forever grateful for their well-wishes and vocal support of the police department.
