American Legion Post 452 will host an outdoor concert fundraiser at its outdoor venue on Main Street in Mullica Hill on Oct. 22.

We have an outdoor stage facing the back lawn of the American Legion building on Main Street,” said Jack Sommer, the post’s adjutant. “The outdoor venue allows us to attract and accommodate larger crowds, extending the services of the Legion Canteen and a local food truck.

“People are invited to bring lawn chairs and get comfortable on our back lawn,” he added.

The event will be the last outdoor concert of the year for the post; shows will return in the spring, though dates and times have yet to be determined. The featured act next month is Love Alive, a cover band that specializes in classic rock songs.

“Love Alive is a band whose exciting live shows have become a summer staple at venues in the Gloucester County, New Jersey area,” said Sommer. “They are well known for their performances of songs by artists as diverse as Heart, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin and many more of their heroes from the decades of the 1960s and 70s.”

Proceeds from the concert will benefit the post’s project fund, which helps improve its facilities, including air-conditioning for the hall. American Legion Post 452 has been holding outdoor concerts since 2018, according to Sommer. They started with a charity event to help a Mullica Hill resident in need.

“It was a large multi-band event called The Heart Festival: A Concert for Kyle, where all the proceeds went toward a fund to help cover medical expenses for a 2012 Clearview High School graduate who was recovering from heart transplant surgery,” Sommer explained.

“The event was a great success, with a very generous outpouring of support from the community.  And Kyle (Allen) is doing very well.”

The Oct. 22 concert will begin at 4 p.m. It will be open to the public, with a $10 entry fee. No outside food or drink will be permitted. The show will be moved indoors in case of inclement weather.

The next big event for the post will be the annual veterans 5K run/1K walk on Nov. 12.
