After the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control endorsed the recommendation for all Americans ages 12 and older to receive Omicron specific booster shots, the Camden County Health Hub will administer begin administering doses tomorrow.
New Jersey has received allocations of both Pfizer and Moderna bivalent boosters, which are being delivered to vaccine providers. These boosters will target both the original COVID-19 strain as well as the BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron subvariants. Omicron is currently causing most of the COVID-19 cases in the country and are predicted to circulate this fall and winter as well, according to the FDA.
“This announcement comes at a critical time and is another positive stride in protecting our communities,” Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. “These vaccines will specifically target the Omicron variants that have been circulating and will bring that much needed extra layer of protection to our community. This development is an exciting step towards a brighter future when it comes to this virus and I encourage all fully vaccinated residents to go get their booster shots.”
The new Pfizer bivalent booster is recommended for all individuals ages 12 and older, while the Moderna bivalent booster is recommended for those ages 18 and older. People can get the bivalent booster if it has been at least two months since they have completed their primary vaccination series or two months after they have received the most recent booster dose with any authorized or approved COVID-19 vaccine.
