During its first meeting of the 2022-’23 school year, the Shamong board of education approved district goals outlined by the superintendent.

The Shamong board of education met in mid-August for its first session of the new school year, approving district goals for the fall and hearing from  Superintendent Christine Vespe.

During her presentation, Vespe presented four district goals for the Shamong district in 2022-’23: curriculum and instruction, response to intervention, enhancement of district technology and district safety and security. Last year’s three goals were enhancement of district technology and response to intervention, along with a focus on the mental health and wellness of the school community.

During the recent meeting, Vespe provided the board and the public a visual breakdown that dives deeper into the four district goals and how the Shamong  district will achieve them.

“During the 2022-’23 school year, the Shamong School District will implement the 2020 New Jersey Learning Standards for classroom instruction,” according to  the PowerPoint presentation. “The district will expand and enhance the Response to Intervention (RTI) program utilizing additional tracking tools … implement a Gaggle Google Workplace backup and restore process, provide a Mobile Device Management solution and upgrade the district phone system with needed software and performance upgrades … and enhance security and safety protocols and procedures.”

The presentation – viewable on the district website under the district  information tab on the main page – also listed three to four activities for each main goal that will aid the district in achieving them, along with a timeline and indicators of success the district can use to measure and evaluate progress.

According to the administrative secretary to the superintendent and district Registrar Jacquelyn Johnson, this year’s goals were unanimously approved following the Vespe’s presentation.

The next board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 20, starting at 7 p.m.
