The Haddonfield Lions Club’s 2022 flea market returns Sept. 10 to the parking lot of One Centennial Square on Euclid Avenue with 100 local vendors selling new, used, antique and vintage items.
“You get everything from somebody who crochets towels for your kitchen, to people who are selling real antiques or collectible items or vinyl records or household items,” explained Shen Shellenberger, former organizer of the event and current volunteer with the Lions Club.
“I always tell people, ‘If you’re going to have a yard sale, have it here!’”
The club will also sell food such as breakfast sandwiches and coffee in the morning and burgers, hot dogs and Philly pretzels in the afternoon. It will have a collection box for the donation of used eyeglasses, a regular part of the club’s outreach.
The market has been around for about 30 years and is now something the community and vendors look forward to each year.
“As early as six months beforehand, people are calling me and asking me what the day is,” Shellenberger said. “It’s really a popular event and it’s very low key.
“It’s just people bringing their stuff out.”
This year’s organizer, Joan Gianiotis, noted how the event is a real community effort.
“Not only do the Lions run it, but the LEOs (young club members between 12 and 30) from the local Haddonfield Memorial High School are a very important part of it,” Gianiotis said. “They help us cook and sell things for us. And then there’s (Boy Scout) Troop 3064, who come in and help clean up, which is a huge benefit, because by that time, we’re all exhausted.”
Following the flea market, an empty Green Drop store truck will collect unsold or unwanted items left. Shellenberger explained that the thrift store sells items to donate to charities. One of them is the National Federation of the Blind, which is aligned with Lions’ mission.
Proceeds from vendor registration and refreshments will go to the Lions Foundation to support community programs and activities and other things related to the club’s mission of helping people with blindness and vision-related issues
One Centennial Square is at 33 E. Euclid Ave. Rain date is Sept. 17. The market’s hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those interested in becoming vendors can email lionsclubfleamarket@gmail.com or call (856) 795-6574.
Spaces are $30 for a 10-foot by 10-foot area and vendors are responsible for bringing their own tables and items.
